Oklahoma City

Boomer54 Mark Note: My wife and I grew up in New Mexico, but now reside for the past 25 years in San Diego, with the high cost of living, real estate and the growing traffic, we are now considering alternatives to the Southern Cal lifestyle.

So when Ryan, no he is not a boomer but that is okay, approached me about his article on Oklahoma it resonated, there are many great places for the boomer generation to retire in the southwest where there is a lower cost of living and still maintain their quality of life. As one of the videos says, Oklahoma City is a big city with a small town feel.

Three Reasons Baby Boomers Love to Live in Oklahoma by Ryan Chafin

According to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, there are several factual statistics that describe why baby boomers love to live in Oklahoma. Considering the demographics of baby boomers in general, the great state of Oklahoma is one that seems to meet the various needs of baby boomers better than most. When reading further, keep in mind that boomers are either already retired or approaching retirement. That being the case, Oklahoma is a prime candidate for relocation for baby boomers today for the following three reasons:

Reason #1 – The states’ fair capitol, Oklahoma City, has ranked high according to the US News and World Report as one of its best cities for job-seeking retirees. After all, not all retirees have enough to live off of. It is often necessary to acquire part-time or even full-time work after retirement age. Many boomers also seek employment for more social interaction. Oklahoma City offers an abundance of opportunity for work for baby boomers today.

Reason #2 – Everyone who is looking forward to retirement or already retired looks for two things: cost of living and quality of life. Cities in Oklahoma rank high for these characteristics. In fact, according to Business Facilities Magazine, Tulsa is ranked the highest in the United States for its low cost of living. It is also ranked second to highest for its quality of life as well.

Reason #3 – Another incredibly important aspect to consider for baby boomers today is their housing costs. Currently, Oklahoma real estate is some of the most affordable real estate in the country. In addition to this statistic, Oklahoma also ranks at number 47 of the states when it comes to total tax burden which makes it an even less expensive place to live and own real estate.

When combining the various attributes that Oklahoma has to offer, it is no wonder why baby boomers love to live in this great state. With its fantastic wealth of employment opportunities for job-seeking retirees, its low cost of living and high quality of life, as well as the fantastic Oklahoma real estate prices, it’s hard to ignore this fantastic state for baby boomer relocation.
