“I don’t wanna’ spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I’ve let all these years go by
Wasted”

Lyrics to the Country song “Wasted” sung by Carrie Underwood

I am here in Toledo, Ohio all week for the annual Young family reunion, and we went to hear my 2nd cousin Kristen Young, sing karaoke last night. Now I have never heard her sing before, so when she got up there, I was blown away on how really good she was!

One of the songs she sang was “Wasted” (recorded by Carrie Underwood) and where I was sitting I could see the words being displayed on the teleprompter. The lyric above really struck a chord with me.

We, as boomers, are entering the second half of our lives…Are we (you) going to leave a legacy or just “waste” your days?

This quote by Don Seltzer has always resonated with me, that we cannot do anything about our past but we can do something about our future.

“I can’t go and make a new start…but I can start now and make a new ending.”.

Seth Godin shares with us…“Every day, we get a chance to give others the benefit of the doubt. Every day, we get the opportunity to give others our support, our confidence and our trust. And yet most days, we hesitate.”

From my post “4 Simple Secrets On How To Embrace Life“:

“Life is divine chaos. embrace it. forgive yourself. The thing is, we still live in a world that’s filled with opportunity. In fact, we have more than an opportunity –we have an obligation. An obligation to spend our time doing great things. To find ideas that matter and to share them. To push ourselves and the people around us to demonstrate gratitude, insight, and inspiration. To take risks and to make the world better by being amazing.

Embrace the art of life.
Most of us settle in, and settle for what we have. Rather than pursue, we accept. Our lives become unwitting celebrations of passivity: we undervalue our work and perceive ourselves as wage slaves (and so we phone it in at the day gig), we consume compulsively (but not create), we pine for better lives (but live vicariously through our televisions).

Life yields to your embrace. Look at what You have been given, it is not about You, it is about what You can do to make the world a better place…Using your Talent, Background, Networks, Money, Freedom.

Eleanor Roosevelt said this 70 years ago and it holds true more than ever for the boomer generation…

“It it never too late to be what you might have been.”

Here is the song performed by Carrie Underwood.
