The willingness to take greater risks is a major key to achieving success, and you may be surprised that it can solve two very different kinds of problems.

The problem of hitting ALL of your goals,

AND

The problem of hitting NO goals… because you never make any.

Take #1. Your solution: Take more risks; set more challenging – even frightening – goals. No, you probably won’t achieve all of them. But you will have stretched yourself and grown in the process. And the successes you have will be that much sweeter.

Take #2. Your solution: Paint some targets, in a variety of sizes. Give yourself big, medium and small goals, so you can start succeeding and develop momentum.

Every morning I start my day by scanning my iGoogle page for headlines for each of the blogs I have a subscription via rss. Everyone should take advantage of this Google tool. Saves me considerable time and I can monitor 5 times as many blogs.

My point is…BusinessClassInc.com continues to exceed my expectations, helps me focus as a business person and always provides encouraging and uplifting content.

This morning was no different. Jan Bolick, publisher of Business Class Inc., wrote about the significance of goal setting and how to achieve them as an individual and as management of sales goals in a business. Click here to see the post—> Hoping or Hopping? She related her story about using them in advertising sales, but the basics remain the same for personal or business goals.

Below are the 6 simple but powerful ways to achieve goals in business or in life. Also, I add my comments after each goal.

1. Clearly define the goal-State the goal and put a date to achieve it. A goal without a date is just a wish.

2. Break it into small measurable parts-Goals become easier , less overwhelming and ultimately more achievable when broken down into monthly, weekly, and daily tasks.

3. Monitor progress- As Bob Parsons, CEO of Godaddy.com, states in his 16 Rules for Business and Life In General ”anything that is measured and watched, improves.”

4. Prepare for setbacks-Almost nothing works the first time it is attempted. There is always more than one path to your goals.

5. Celebrate along the way-Celebrate the small victories along with the large ones. There is always a reason to be positive and to celebrate.

6. Evaluate-Manage the goals, review them regularly, remember anything that is not managed will deteriorate.

Bonus: Again from Bob Parsons, 16 Goals in Business and Life in General: 7. Always be moving forward. Never stop investing. Never stop improving. Never stop doing something new. The moment you stop improving your organization, it starts to die. Make it your goal to be better each and every day, in some small way. Remember the Japanese concept of Kaizen. Small daily improvements eventually result in huge advantages.
